KEAM results to be out today

June 25, 2012: The Kerala Engineering Rank List 2012, prepared by equal weighatge for the marks in the Engineering Entrance Examination and the Standardized marks of the three science subjects will be released on 25th June, 2012. This is the second time in Kerala, that the marks in the three science subjects of the Qualifying Examination (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry /Computer Science/Biotechnology/Biology) are also considered for preparing the Engineering Rank list.
In 2011, the marks in the three subjects of students of streams other than Kerala Higher Secondary were normalized with the marks of the corresponding subjects of the Kerala Higher Secondary. In this process, the values used for Normalization were the ‘Arithmetic Mean’ and ‘Standard Deviation’ of marks of the Kerala Higher Secondary.
The Normalization process in 2011 had restricted the maximum Normalized marks to 100 even in cases where the Normalized mark crossed the 100 mark. Moreover, in 2011, the Marks secured in the Entrance examination out of 960 were converted to a base of 500 while the qualifying marks out of 300 were also brought to a base of 500, to ensure equal weightage for the two marks, in the preparation of the Engineering rank list.
This year, ‘Global’ values are being used in place of ‘State’ values for Standardization (in place of Normalization) of marks of the different subjects of different streams in the process of ranking.
So,all candidates who have qualified in the Engineering Entrance Examination, will have their marks in the three subjects mapped on to a common base considering the ‘Global mean’ and ‘Global Standard Deviation’, in place of ‘State Mean’ and ‘State Standard Deviation’. This will result in changes in the actual marks of all qualified candidates.
The ‘Global Mean’ would be the mean of marks secured by all students who have passed the examination in a subject in the Kerala Higher Secondary, Kerala VHSE, CBSE and CISCE streams in the four years from 2009 to 2012.
The ‘Global Standard Deviation’ would be the standard deviation of marks secured by all students who have passed the examination in a subject in the Kerala Higher Secondary, Kerala VHSE, CBSE and CISCE streams in the four years from 2009 to 2012. Thus the Global Mean and Global Standard Deviation is being computed based on 4 streams and based on the data for 4 years.
As the first step, the mark of each student would be standardized using the mean and standard deviation for the concerned stream for the year considered. This would then be mapped to a group considering the Global mean and Global standard deviation.
The second major change in ranking process relates to the removal of the limit of the Standardized values to 100. Thus if a Standardized mark exceeds, 100, it will not be limited to 100 but the actual value itself will be considered. However, the overall limit of 300 for the three subjects together will continue.
The third major change relates to the manner in which the marks in Entrance and Qualifying examinations are to be considered for the preparation of the rank list. The standardized marks in the qualifying will be taken out of 300 (100 per subject) and the marks in the Entrance Examination, out of 960 would be brought to a base of 300. So the Entrance Rank list will be prepared out of q maximum of 600 marks. In 2011, the rank list of Engineering was published on July, 10, 2011.
In 2012, of the 106071 candidates who appeared for the Engineering Entrance held at 309 venues, 77510 have qualified to figure in the rank list. The marks in the Engineering Entrance Examination were released on 25th May, 2012. With the publication of the rank list, the option registration is expected to gain momentum.
Results are expected at www.cee-kerala.org and www.cee.kerala.gov.in
